Springtime Haiku Competition

Celebrate spring with a season-themed haiku!

Enter your poem between Monday, April 3, and Monday, May 15, 2023. Entries can be submitted on paper forms (at the circulation desk), by email to bhpl@boontonholmeslibrary.org, or via this form

Eligibility: The BHPL Springtime Haiku Contest is open to Boonton library cardholders, Town of Boonton residents. and students enrolled in Boonton schools 

Content: Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry often inspired by nature. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and  last lines of a haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.

Include your name, age group, and best way to get in touch in your e-mail or on your paper submission. All entries will be posted anonymously at the library.

Age groups are as follows

  • 0-7
  • 8-12
  • 13-18
  • 19+

The winner in each group will receive a gift card to a local business. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges and will be announced on Wednesday, May 17.
