Water Color Workshops with Susan Sopira
Starting Sunday, October 27, 3:30-5 p.m.

This Fall, enjoy six Sunday afternoons of creative “me time,” learning how to paint with watercolors from local artist and art teacher, Susan Sopira.  This workshop is a gentle continuation of our Spring Watercolor Workshop.  Participants need not have attended the Spring workshop, however, this series is ideally for those who have at least some experience with watercolors and/or painting.  There is a one-time $50 materials fee which covers all implements and materials.

Participants attend all six sessions, which are all Sundays, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.  October 27, November 17 and 24, December 1, 8 and 15.  Currently, the class is full.  However, if you wish to be placed on our waiting list, please contact the circulation desk at 973-334-2980.

Alzheimer’s 101

This program provides a comprehensive overview for anyone who wants to learn about memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, and other forms of dementia. Information about risk factors and warning signs, steps to obtaining a diagnosis, and treatment options are discussed.  Planning for the future, coping with behavioral and other changes, and accessing community resources are also reviewed.  The workshop is sponsored by Alzherheimer’s New Jersey.  Light refreshments will be served.

All About: The Statue of Liberty

History buff and author, Kevin Woyce, offers a delightful talk about the Statue of Liberty, the iconic American symbol.  Kevin explains how she was built and what she symbolizes, and introduce some of the people involved in her creation, including sculptor Frederic Bartholdi, engineer Gustave Eiffel, architect Richard Morris Hunt, and newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer.  The program concludes with brief histories of Ellis Island and Liberty State Park. The slide show includes Kevin’s original photography of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and New York Harbor views, plus vintage images of historic people, places, and events.  A light lunch is included

Author visit with Maryann McFadden

We are delighted to welcome New Jersey author, Maryann McFadden, for a very special book club evening.  Maryann will join us to discuss her critically acclaimed novel, The Cemetery Keeper’s Wife.  The novel tells the story of two brave and complicated women, one real and one fictional, and an unlikely bond that transcends more than a century.  What happens when the line between the past and the present begins to blur…

Mindfulness Meditation

Please join us for an informative program about Mindful Meditation led by Alexandra Juryte, Meditation Teacher.  Alexandra will cover the what, how, and why of meditation and show us how to become truly mindful during our meditation sessions.  Japanese tea and light refreshment follow the meditation session.
