The library is once again celebrating love and friendship with a Valentine haiku competition.
Get in touch with your inner poet and submit your haiku to the Library by Monday, February 8, 5 p.m. Submissions can be made in person or by email to [email protected].
Eligibility: The BHPL Valentine Haiku Contest is open to Town of Boonton residents and students enrolled in schools located in the Town of Boonton.
Content: Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry often inspired by nature. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.

Here’s how to enter: Compose your Valentine themed haiku and submit it via e-mail to [email protected] by Monday, February 8. Submissions may also be delivered on paper in person. Accompanying original artwork is warmly welcomed. All submissions will be posted on the library’s website.
Include your name, age group, and best way to get in touch in your e-mail.
Age groups are as follows
- 0-7
- 8-12
- 13-18
- 19+
The winner in each group will receive a gift card to a local business. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges and will be announced on February 12.
